April 2018 – Early Evolution of the Moon – Nick Dygert, UTK Earth & Planetary Sciences

After watching the live launch of the TESS planet-hunting telescope aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 booster, and awaiting our wayward speaker to find his way to Oak Ridge, our ORION members were treated to a fascinating talk from Dr. Nick Dygert at last week’s meeting. Dr. Dygert presented his research on the early evolution of the moon, and we presented him with his ORION mug. Thank you Dr. Dygert!

Greetings from your new President

Hello, ORION! I’m Dave McCallister.

During the March 3rd ORION Board meeting, I was elected as the president of ORION for 2018. I want to thank ORION founder, longtime president, and current VP Dr. David Fields for his encouragement and support during this transition.

I have been to many ORION events over the last three years, including giving the January 2018 program and have met many members throughout the Knoxville astronomy scene, but I’m sure there are many members of ORION that I have not had the pleasure of meeting. So I thought I’d introduce myself here.
