Local and National Affiliations

  • Tamke Allan Observatory.  Tamke Allan Observatory is owned and operated by Roane State Community College and is located near (but not on) the Rockwood, TN campus.  ORION hosts free public observing nights here on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
  • Night Sky Network.  The Night Sky Network is a network of amateur astronomy clubs that strive to educate and inform the general public about science – particularly as it relates to NASA missions, findings, technologies and history.  We also take great pleasure in helping to ignite a passion for learning about the night sky in general.
  • Knoxville Observers.  The Knoxville Observers (KO) is known for what their name implies:  observing.  Many ORION members are also members of KO, and vice versa.  The Knoxville Observers host public observing nights as well, generally the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month.  These observing sessions take place in other parts of Knox, Roane, Blount or Anderson county.   Please see their web-site for up-to-date information.
