Overview of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) New Nuclear Generation Initiatives

Speaker: Daniel Pratt, TVA Enterprise Relations

Abstract: Additional nuclear capacity is one of TVA’s key vision areas. Dan will provide an overview of ongoing projects and future opportunities under development. From 2008-2010, Dan was the General Manager of TVA’s Bellefonte Nuclear site. Dan is currently focused on a long-term structure to allow distributor ownership of generation assets.

Bio: Dan Pratt is General Manager, Distributor Owned Generation in TVA’s Enterprise Relations organization. TVA’s Enterprise Relations organization is focused on initiatives important to implementing TVA’s vision such as the Integrated Resource Plan, distributor-owned generation, and long-term financial flexibility.

Dan was most recently the General Manager for TVA’s Bellefonte Nuclear site. Dan was responsible for maintaining the partially complete nuclear units in deferred plant status and completion of a detailed assessment of the Bellefonte site options for additional nuclear generation. In August 2010, the TVA Board authorized capital funding to initiate the next phase of the Bellefonte project including engineering and licensing baseline development, long-lead procurement and site preparation activities. Dan has 18 years experience in the energy industry focusing on nuclear and transmission & distribution.

Dan joined TVA from AREVA where he was Key Account Manager for the Tennessee Valley Authority. In addition, Dan was the Vice President Sales, Southern Region for AREVA’s T&D division. He was formerly the Vice President of North American Marketing and Strategy for AREVA T&D, Inc.

Prior to joining AREVA, Dan spent 11 years in the nuclear power industry with Arizona Public Service (APS) and Westinghouse Nuclear. He joined APS as the reactor coolant system design engineer in 1992, focusing primarily on steam generator life extension projects. At Westinghouse, Dan managed nuclear field service activities and was project manager for the TVA Sequoyah and Watts Bar replacement steam generator projects.

Dan holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Arizona State University and an MBA from Duke University.
